NY Highways has awarded two coring and testing contracts covering seven areas of North Yorkshire to M & G Investments Ltd and Igne Testing Limited, after 13 bids from small businesses. NY Highways has awarded two coring and testing contracts covering seven areas of North Yorkshire, after 13 bids. The work is split into two lots, each going to a different supplier, according to a contract award notice published on Find a Tender on 14 October. In brief: Lot 1 (Richmondshire, Hambleton, Scarborough and Ryedale) went to M & G Investments Ltd, at £311,819 excluding VAT Lot 2 (Craven, Harrogate and Selby) went to Igne Testing Limited, at £257,527 excluding VAT (£309,032.40 including VAT) Both run from 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2028 (estimated), with two 12-month extension options to 31 October 2030 Who won the coring and testing contracts, and on what terms Coring means drilling cylindrical samples out of a road or the ground beneath it, so engineers can check layer thicknesses and the condition of materials. Laboratory testing then tells a highway authority what it’s actually dealing with before it designs a repair or a resurfacing scheme. The notice classifies the work under test drilling and boring. The contracts were let under an open procedure, and the notice records both as below the relevant procurement threshold. Lot 1 drew seven tenders and Lot 2 drew six, all from small and medium-sized enterprises. The notice lists both winning suppliers as SMEs: M & G Investments Ltd in Wakefield and Igne Testing Limited in Glasgow. The award decisions were made on 14 October 2026, and the earliest date either contract can be signed is 29 October 2026. The notice’s value figures for Lot 1 don’t reconcile. Its VAT-inclusive figure is £4,701,828, about 15 times its VAT-exclusive figure of £311,819, while Lot 2’s VAT-inclusive figure is its VAT-exclusive figure plus 20%. The notice doesn’t explain the difference, so this piece uses the figures excluding VAT. NY Highways’ previous framework for the same services, awarded in 2022, went to Construction Testing Solutions and Pavement Testing Services Limited, and North Yorkshire, York, Leeds and Bradford councils could call off from it. In January, NY Highways sounded out the market on a four-year framework estimated at £2.24m excluding VAT. The notice doesn’t say how these awards relate to either. For a wider view of the county’s highways supply chain, see the £50m civil engineering framework that appointed 16 contractors in May . The notice doesn’t name an incumbent or set out expected volumes of coring and testing work.
