Hertfordshire County Council has opened a six-week consultation on its Local Transport Plan, known as LTP5. The council wants residents, businesses and organisations to share their views on how transport should develop in the county through to 2050.
The consultation runs from 28 September to 9 November 2026. It informs priorities and investment decisions that will shape Hertfordshire’s transport system for decades.
Draft plan sets a wider framework
The draft plan supports broader council goals. It aims to improve access to jobs, education and services, support sustainable economic growth, promote health through active travel, and create cleaner, safer communities.
Proposed measures include improving bus and rail services, enhancing opportunities to walk, wheel and cycle, boosting road safety and road condition, expanding electric vehicle charging, strengthening east-west public transport links, and improving connectivity across the county.
Guides future decisions and investment
The plan will direct how transport choices are made and which schemes receive funding. The council says this will help ensure Hertfordshire continues to be a good place to live, work and visit.
Public input on priorities
Residents are asked whether the draft plan highlights the right priorities and which improvements could best change their daily travel. Transport affects commuting, school runs, family visits, business operations and access to essential services.
Councillor Paul Zukowskyj, Executive Member for Environment, Transport and Growth, said: "This is an important chance for residents, businesses and organisations to share their views on what works well, what needs to improve and what should be prioritised in the future. I encourage everyone to spend a few minutes responding to the consultation."
