WJ Group helped Hills Café in High Wycombe refresh its interior with a volunteer repaint ahead of the café’s 10-year anniversary.
The community café operates as a subsidiary of One Can Trust, providing food support through an onsite pantry and serving as a vital resource for local residents in need. Its location above the café houses the trust’s community support offices.
Hills Café runs various services such as a weekly community café, former homework clubs, and a warm space during colder months. It also offers flexible employment opportunities for parents and young people outside education.
Parking access improved in 2024
The partnership between WJ Group, a Milton Keynes-based road marking and highway safety specialist, and Hills Café began in 2024. WJ Group delivered parking and access marking improvements outside the café after being introduced via Balfour Beatty Living Places.
This work addressed vehicle access issues along the busy nearby stretch of shops and housing. It improved safety and accessibility, making the café easier to reach for visitors.
Volunteer day refreshes café interior
To mark the café’s decade of community service, WJ Group organised a volunteer day to repaint the café interior. The repaint refreshed the space and aligned it with updated branding.
This effort forms part of WJ Group’s Thinking Community initiative, encouraging staff to support local causes. The partnership with Hills Café continues with further support planned.
Local voices on the partnership
Georgia Broughton, Sustainability Advisor at WJ Group, said the café plays an important local role. She highlighted how partnering with Buckinghamshire Highways Alliance increases their impact.
Natalie Edwards, Hills Café Manager, expressed gratitude for the repaint. She said the refresh brightened the space and helped maintain its warm, inviting atmosphere for customers and the community.
Sonya Batchelor, CEO of One Can Trust, added that while new paint can brighten walls, the community working together brightens the whole neighbourhood.
