Supervisor Skills Training Cost Cut by £75 Through Match Funding

CIHT Learn will match CITB Employer Network contributions to reduce the cost of Supervisor Skills Level 1 and 2 courses, easing training access amid changing funding arrangements.

Contractors can now reduce their costs for supervisor training from £250 to £175 per learner. This is because CIHT Learn matches CITB Employer Network contributions for Supervisor Skills Level 1 (SSL1) and Level 2 (SSL2) courses.

The funding change simplifies access by removing complex CITB procedures and extended approvals. It offers a low-administration alternative during a time when CITB funding structures are changing and match funding levels vary.

Match Funding for Supervisor Courses

The Supervisor Skills programmes were developed by the Supply Chain Safety Leadership Group (SCSLG) and are delivered online by CIHT Learn. They cover safety, communication, wellbeing, environmental responsibility, and advanced leadership.

The courses use an on-demand digital format. This flexibility allows learners to fit training around shifts, operational pressures, and dispersed locations. The programmes are well suited to new supervisors, apprentices, and those managing more complex activities.

Addressing Skills Shortages

Sue Percy FCIHT CBE, Chief Executive at CIHT, says the highways and construction sectors are experiencing a skills shortage at supervisory level. She notes that the match funding offer helps to keep supervisor training moving despite evolving CITB financial support.

By reducing costs and removing administrative barriers, the scheme enables employers and individuals to develop and retain capable supervisors. This supports sector needs now and in the future.

Mel Clarke OBE, National Highways Director of Health, Safety and Wellbeing, endorses the CIHT Supervisor Skills Programme. She points out that skilled supervisors with advanced safety leadership ensure effective planning and prioritise worker safety on projects.
