Somerset Council has commenced work on the first phase of a major road safety improvement scheme in Bridgwater, targeting key junctions and pedestrian crossings that have been identified as accident hotspots.
The £4.2 million scheme includes the installation of new traffic signals, improved pedestrian crossing facilities, and enhanced road markings at several locations throughout the town centre.
Phase one focuses on the junction of Bath Road and Taunton Road, where a series of collisions over the past three years prompted urgent safety reviews.
"Road safety is our top priority, and this scheme will make a real difference to everyone using these roads," said the council's cabinet member for transport.
