Solar-powered safety barriers that once defined the company are now part of a wider range of infrastructure solutions under the name SG. The change replaces the long-standing Solar Gates UK brand with a simpler title that covers the company’s broader capabilities.
SG has grown from a solar gate specialist into a supplier of products including the well-established SOSEC and INSTABOOM solar barriers, Berlex traffic signals, EV charging infrastructure, Variable Message Signs (VMS), and air quality monitors. These developments complement the service reach of its parent, the Torquay Group.
The transition from Solar Gates to SG
The name Solar Gates no longer reflects the full span of the business. The company has evolved over 25 years into a multi-product supplier for construction, highways, airports, ports, events, fixed installations, and commercial projects across the UK.
Anna Blake, SG’s Commercial Director, describes the change as an introduction rather than a rebrand. She highlights a history built on trusted teams, strong client relationships, and solutions proven to work in demanding environments.
Four values underpin each project
SG retains four core values: innovative, passionate, capable, and compassionate. These principles guide every project and partnership, anchoring the company’s approach despite the name change.
Social value remains central to SG’s operations. The commitment to making positive impacts on communities and the environment grows alongside the company.
A clearer platform for specifiers and contractors
SG’s refreshed website aims to aid procurement teams, contractors, and specifiers in understanding the company’s full range of solutions. The design prioritises clarity over marketing and supports a straightforward presentation of products and services.
Meeting evolving infrastructure challenges
Neil Sampson, CEO of the Torquay Group, notes increased complexity in infrastructure and construction projects, including safety, sustainability, technology, and efficiency requirements. He states that SG’s broader offering and strengthened partnerships position it to address these demands effectively.
The company’s sector focus includes highways, construction, airports, ports, events, fixed install, and commercial markets across the UK.
