Site-based professionals working in asphalt technology can now apply for formal industry recognition under a new membership grade. The Institute of Asphalt Technology (IAT) has introduced the Operational Member of the IAT (OMIAT) grade, designed specifically for staff delivering asphalt works on UK road projects.
Recognition for operational roles
The OMIAT grade acknowledges the vital contribution of those working in contracting, production, technical, or design roles on site. To qualify, applicants must have at least 12 months of industry experience, demonstrate a working knowledge of asphalt technology, hold a site-based role, and supply a CV with their application.
The annual membership fee is £120.

Members receive access to a range of practical resources aimed at supporting day-to-day asphalt operations. This includes the Laying Guide through the IAT App for quick on-site reference to best practice, as well as technical videos for accessible learning and knowledge refresh.

OMIAT members can track their Continuous Professional Development (CPD) through dedicated resources. The grade gives access to Derby Courses and other training events, with potential sponsorship from local IAT branches.
