An extended contraflow will run on the A180 in Grimsby for up to two weeks from Monday 21 September. This change supports resurfacing and bridge-deck waterproofing works between Lockhill Roundabout and Westgate Roundabout.
North East Lincolnshire Council anticipates delays during peak commuting periods and advises drivers to travel outside these times or use alternative routes where possible.
An overnight closure to install new layout
The contraflow extension requires a full overnight closure starting at 8pm on Sunday 20 September. This closure allows work crews to alter the traffic management setup safely.
During this period, drivers are recommended to divert through Grimsby town centre. The A180 reopens once the new layout is in place, maintaining two-way traffic within the contraflow system.
How the contraflow works
The contraflow diverts traffic onto the opposite carriageway, freeing the eastbound side for resurfacing towards Cleethorpes. It also accommodates ongoing waterproofing of the eastbound bridge deck and replacement of central reservation barriers.
Traffic management uses barriers within the central reservation to separate opposing flows and protect work areas. This arrangement ensures traffic keeps moving while crews carry out tasks safely.
